Join the Team!

Postby bigThinker on Sun Mar 08, 2009 2:37 am

Firstly, thank you for your interest in DEADLOCK. We're having a great time making this mod and we're looking for a few more awesome team members!

Specifically, we're looking for people who are trying to further their career in the game industry by developing a professional quality mod. Mods are increasingly recognized as valuable experience by the powers that be. Maybe you're in QA and you want to break into animation. Maybe you got the axe when your studio tanked and you need to stay sharp. Maybe you're a student with mad skills and want an edge on the competition. Whatever the case, we're looking for people who can do professional work and are motivated to be on a team that takes this project seriously.

As we're developing under the free Source license, free distribution is mandatory. We're all volunteers here!

Skills Needed Now

  • C++ Coder: Put your skills to good use! There will be a few unusual/interesting challenges for those with experience. Experience with SVN or other content management systems is a plus.
  • Source AI Specialist: Experience with the HL2 AI direction entities and AI scripting. The combat AI will be basic for the zombies. Our challenge is to coordinate AI pathing with our repathing system.

Skills Needed Soon

  • Animator/Rigger: We've got tweleve characters of different sizes that need to be rigged. A few of the character models already exist. The remainder will wait until after the skeleton.
  • Source Animation Scripter: Experience with Source's animation blending and procedural animation systems.
  • Lead Tester: Experience with Mantis and coordinating regular games with a large group of volunteers.
  • Level Designers: A full-blown Hammer guru, and understanding of game design principles. The maps will be designed iteratively, with gameplay being the top priority.
  • 3d Artists: Maya/3DS Max. We've got a healthy list of characters and props that need to be created.
  • Texture Artists: Will work with LDs to create unique environments.
  • Game Tester: We need a dedicated group of testers to play Deadlock's alpha and beta builds. The two key dimensions are technical (try to break/glitch it), and gameplay (find uberstrats, and min/max it to death). Understanding of game design or production is a plus.
  • Voice Actors: Mute characters aren't much fun. We need performers to bring them to life. Audition now!
  • Dialog Writer: Our characters need witty, fun, and interesting things to say. You can make that happen. Submit your lines.

How to Apply

If you'd like to apply for a position above, shoot an email to ryan Image deadlockmod.com with "DEADLOCK” followed by the title of the job you're applying for in the subject line.

Your email should include these points:

  • Your full name, age and location
  • How you heard about us
  • Which position you're interested in
  • Relevant experience at work, university, and/or side projects
  • A link to your portfolio and/or resume
  • Anything else we should know

For the tester position, please also include:

  • The games you're currently playing
  • How many hours a week you play computer games
  • Are you a competitive or a casual player (we need both types)

I'm available here to answer any general questions you have, so if you've got one fire away!

Well I'm Ryan, the one who sent in an email for Texture artist. I'm hoping you received it. I've worked on a bunch of projects involving my school UAT, so I hope my skills are up to par. I'm always willing to work, even if it is small stuff you want me to do.

Mod is looking great guys! I sent Ryan an email regarding a possible position for web development. Hope to hear back from you guys. Since I have no mod skillz (very minimal on BF2, not even valve engine) I'd love to you use what skills/expertise (its my full time occupation) I DO have on such an amazing mod. Either way keep up the good work!
